Forget the dark fury of Spawnthe scariest part of this portrait of comic-book entrepreneur McFarlane is when a fan admits to cutting his food budget so he could buy hundreds of the creator's action figures. Almost as frightening is director Kenton Vaughan's decision to gloss over the most dramatic moments of McFarlane's career including his decision to quit his gig as an acclaimed Spider-Man artist and release Spawn on his own dime in favor of way too many scenes from his life as a fanatical baseball fan.
