Q In Murder by Numbers, Sandra Bullock's butch detective says she's nicknamed the Hyena because female hyenas have mock penises. Also, in Big Trouble, Dennis Farina claims all biting mosquitoes are girls. True animal tales?
A Somebody's been watching the Discovery Channel. ''Female hyenas have very masculinized external genitalia,'' says Maureen Lemire, a veteran nature show producer for the net. ''They also display aggressive behavior.'' And here's the biting analysis: ''A female mosquito needs protein for egg laying, which she gets from dining on our blood.'' Males subsist on plant nectar, making them the species' fairer sex.
