Burning Question

Q Where is Monster's Ball set?

A The locale has been a bit of a mystery, even for some Lions Gate publicists. In the film, a sign generically reading ''State Penitentiary'' and a paper called The Gazette don't help. True, Georgia license plates do appear and a gas station sign proclaims ''Georgia is peachy.'' But Billy Bob Thornton places the pen in ''Jackson,'' home of a Louisiana state pokey—and the state capital of Mississippi (there's also a Jackson, Ga.). And though the movie features the electric chair, lethal injection is used in Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana (where Ball was shot). Gate's Curtis Miller dismisses any state of confusion: ''It's Georgia.''
