Gary Indiana (Resentment) has made a name for himself as an edgy chronicler of the fictional trials of the rich and powerful. His latest foray into grifter-meets-the-millionaire territory features Evangeline Annamapu Thurlow Slater Carson, a.k.a. Evelyn, and sometimes Eva, who looks ''a lot like Liz Taylor in Butterfield 8'' and acts a lot like Leona Helmsley. Thanks to multiple double-crosses and abrupt changes in point of view and scenery, the plot can be a little murky at times. But Evangeline is a character with real star power, a woman ''who could play the mark 'like Chopin played the piano.''' B
