--
Ricci, in a nearly wordless role, plays Suzie, a Russian dancer deserted by her father and forced to go it alone in England, then France during WWII. Once in the City of Light, she joins a risque theatrical troupe and forges a relationship with a gypsy hunk (Depp, reeking of Chocolat). Director Sally Potter beautifully depicts the cultural and emotional displacement caused by war by electing to tell the story more through images than dialogue. Add to that Cate Blanchett's wonderful turn as Suzie's bombastic best friend who romances tenor John Turturro, and you have a movie almost worth crying over.
