C+
Black Knight, Martin Lawrence's latest joke assembly line, takes off from a concept that might have served Bob Hope in the '40s or Richard Pryor in the '70s. Lawrence plays a sneaky underachiever who gets transported back to an English castle in the year 1328; he's a bling-bling wanna-be trapped in Dark Ages squalor. There are a few good gags, but the movie winds itself so completely around Lawrence's idiom and personality that he defeats the medieval world before it has even had a chance to coax a fresh comic reaction out of him.
