English eccentricity is elevated to just plain strangeness as a sage kook (Nigel Hawthorne) meddles in the affairs of his down-on-his-luck nephew (Sewell) -- from a ''retreat'' atop a giant pillar in the garden. Sewell is charmingly deer-in-headlights, while Driver, as his yuppie girlfriend, speaks volumes with a flip of her sunglasses. But why, oh why, make Sir Nigel do one of those embarrassing solo happy-dances?
