Felice (Schrader) is a boldly bohemian Jew working with the resistance in 1943 Berlin. Lilly (Kohler) is a lonely hausfrau whose husband, a Nazi officer, is away at war. They aren't the likeliest two women to fall in love, but boy, do they ever. Jaguar and Aimée are their nicknames for each other, and they're about the only lighthearted aspects of an impetuous romance that tremulously flowers amid Allied bombings and Gestapo raids. Based on Erica Fischer's 1994 novel, their love story is a real-life tragedy, and all the more heartbreaking for it.
