VAMP OF APPROVAL
Home is where the Slayer is. UPN successfully resurrected Sarah Michelle Gellar's Buffy the Vampire Slayer (62nd), attracting 7.7 million fans and the show's highest rating ever in adults 18-49. By now, audiences know where to find Survivor: Africa but still blew off CBS' preview special (41st) for Friends (1st). TV fans also rejected familiar faces--ABC's Jason Alexander vehicle Bob Patterson (43rd) and The WB's Bob Saget comedy Raising Dad (104th). Instead, viewers turned to new, less celeb-driven series, like NBC's hospital half-hour Scrubs (11th, 16th), which improved in its second outing. And despite the last-minute cancellation of the Emmy Awards, news of bombing in Afghanistan still overshadowed the second episode of ABC's Sunday-night thriller Alias (35th), which lost 4.3 million viewers from its premiere.
