Playing against just about every type imaginable, the normally dry -- not to mention British -- Cary Elwes stars here as a bumbling, virginal Southern insurance adjuster who finds himself seduced by both a money-grubbing harpy (Mary Steenburgen) and a conflicted hired killer (Elaine Hendrix). Awkwardly performed and woefully familiar, this guns-and-groaners bore is yet another entry in the long-expired genre of ''quirky'' crime comedies -- though at least ''Wish'''s audience will be able to relate to its title.
