Adapting a Norwegian movie (''Insomnia'') has boosted Al Pacino's career; now his ''Glengarry Glen Ross'' costar Kevin Spacey wants to do the same. He'll produce (but not act in) a U.S. remake of ''Elling,'' one of this year's foreign-language Oscar nominees. The ''Odd Couple''-like comedy about two mental outpatients adjusting to life outside the hospital has been a huge success in Norway, as a novel and a play as well as on film. It opened this week on New York screens and will slowly make its way across the U.S.

SOUND BITE You won't see the MTV Movie Awards until June 6, but they're taping on Saturday, June 1, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. In its effort to get its money's worth out of its new multimillion-dollar deal with the Osbournes, the network will have daughter doing double duty. She and Ja Rule will cover the arrivals during the preshow, and during the ceremony, she'll make her live stage debut, performing her cover of Madonna's ''Papa Don't Preach.'' Also on the musical bill are Eminem and . Between Kelly and Eminem, MTV will probably need the full five days between taping and airing to bleep out all the profanity.
