HEALTH WATCH Diana Ross has decided to stop -- in the name of love -- and enter rehab. About 10 days ago, at the apparent urging of her five children, Ross checked herself into Promises, the celebrity clinic in Malibu where stars go detoxify (alumni include Robert Downey Jr., Ben Affleck, Charlie Sheen, and Paula Poundstone). Her spokesman would not specify her ailment or the nature and expected duration of her treatment, saying only that ''Diana Ross voluntarily entered Promises to clear up some personal issues before she starts on a summer tour in both the U.S. and abroad. She wanted to be in great shape because she is someone who feels a sense of responsibility to her family and her friends.'' The 58-year-old singer, who's had a traumatic last couple of years (her ''Return to Love'' tour with two latter-day Supremes flopped, and her 14-year marriage to shipping magnate Arne Naess ended), is scheduled to begin her summer tour June 26 in Germany.

LEGAL BRIEF Melissa Rivers' husband filed for divorce on Wednesday in Los Angeles. Horse breeder John Endicott cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for splitting from E!'s red carpet commentator. Married since 1998, the couple have an 18-month-old son, Cooper, of whom they will share joint custody, a spokesman for Rivers says. You might think Endicott wouldn't want to risk the wrath of his mother-in-law, but Joan Rivers seems more disappointed than angry. ''It makes me truly, truly sad,'' she tells the New York Daily News. ''Both Melissa and John tried very hard. But people sometimes change and grow apart.''
