B+
Five years after her poppy last album, Nine Objects of Desire, Vega (now separated from her husband and former producer Mitchell Froom) returns in part to the chilly folk of her debut. Gauzy, with a pervasive vibe of low-grade despair, the songs mostly concern death or spiritual depletion, whether examining the shipwreck of her marriage, mourning the loss of friends, or addressing the icons of religion. Infinite sadness, hypnotic beauty.
