JAY-Z DAYS OF SUMMER
A nation of music fans turned away from coverage of the national tragedy long enough to seek diversion at the record store. Jay-Z's Blueprint rubbed off on 426,000 fans. Also enjoying healthy debuts were rock newcomers Nickelback, at No. 2 with 178,000 units; creative-spelling rapper Fabolous, entering at No. 4 based on sales of 143,000; Bob Dylan, enjoying his best first week ever at No. 5 and 134,000; and P.O.D., making a point of entry at No. 6 with 133,000. Beleaguered Mariah Carey would probably like to blame her 116,000-unit debut on disastrous distractions, but given the other healthy chart bows, her unlucky No. 7 entry is more probably proof not all publicity is good publicity.
