Imagine an evening at a two-bit medieval-themed dinner theater and all of the tortures that lie therein: an underdog hero (in this case, Ledger) bedecked in ill-fitting armor; a fair damsel who looks like she'd rather be popping open a Bud outside the local convenience store; anachronistic party tunes piped in to rouse audience enthusiasm; a crowd that bellows senselessly. Top it all off with monotonous bouts of jousting -- surely one of the world's duller sports -- and the experience feels like a lance to the head.
