Lead Performance: Stereolab; Genre: Indie Rock
--
Over the course of a decade, Stereolab's sound has evolved at the pace -- as singer Laetitia Sadier might say -- of an escargot rather than a lapin. The same can be said of this latest batch of songs, which have a languid, draggy feel, hiding the band's famously clever melodies inside flabby compositions. It's evolution without improvement -- a disappointment compared with their action-packed output of the late '90s.
