Zipped Drive

Teddy wasn't the only one looking out for Haley Joel Osment's melancholy mecha in A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Another constant companion was his navy blue Icon jacket, courtesy of the NYC-based Weatherproof Garment Co. And moviegoers took note. According to Weatherproof president Fredric Stollmack, the company was ''inundated'' with calls about how to get an Icon of their own after the A.I. sightings. (Also worn by Martin Sheen on The West Wing and John Mahoney on Frasier, the jacket is available in 35 hues at department stores like Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom. Cost: $75-95.) How to explain such an Ivy League look appearing in a futuristic film? ''It's a prediction of things to come [in fashion],'' Stollmack speculates. ''It's more about classic luxury these days.'' In line with this trend is Weatherproof's new collection of faux shearling coats, to be unveiled this fall. And unlike his on-screen persona, Osment will be ''one of a kind'' with a custom-made new jacket just his size.
