Raoul Peck's biographical drama about Patrice Lumumba (intense French actor Eriq Ebouaney), who became prime minister of the Congo when that African country achieved independence from Belgium in 1960, was assassinated and rose in memory to martyrdom. The film is as fiery as the man whose existence it illuminates; it dispenses with chronology to convey the urgent chaos of revolution.
