'A MINOR' HIT
The artist formerly known as Puffy didn't blow hard enough to debut on top. But the opening numbers for P. Diddy's The Saga Continues...weren't just diddly-squat, either. Sean Combs' latest sampler bowed at No. 2, selling 186,000 copies--less than the 205,000 that Forever opened with in 1999, but higher than some retailers expected. The week's battle between Arista and ex-Arista head Clive Davis ended with Davis' protegee Alicia Keys besting Arista's P. Diddy; Keys unlocked 222,000 hearts her third week out. The week's second-highest debut, at No. 9, belonged to Melissa Etheridge, whose Skin shook 83,000 hands.
