When it absolutely, positively had to get there overnight, promoters of the DVD release of Cast Away (in which Tom Hanks plays a FedEx manager) chose...Airborne Express? Although Federal Express was so integral to the film's plot that Twentieth Century Fox packed promo discs in phony FedEx bundles, the studio mistakenly used the rival to rush the materials to some journalists. Fox fielded a flurry of calls from scribes ''noting the irony,'' says Fox Home Entertainment's Steve Feldstein. Failing to get the joke, FedEx says its deal did not extend to promotion of the DVD. Adds Feldstein, downplaying the fuss: ''We thought it was funny. Oops.''
