THE MONEY RETURNS
Two weeks into blockbuster season and the verdict so far is clear on only one count: The Mummy Returns is an obvious hit, tacking on another $33.7 million in its second weekend, and on pace to top the 1999 original's $155.2 million. Yet things remain a little murky for A Knight's Tale, since its $16.5 million debut doth not a smash maketh. Granted, Heath Ledger's rock & roll jousting spectacle cost only $40 million to produce, but expectations were certainly higher. The summer derby should get especially bloody next week when two more contenders get thrown into the mix: DreamWorks' animated buzz-magnet Shrek and J. Lo's supernatural thriller Angel Eyes. Nicole Kidman's fin de siecle musical Moulin Rouge also opens in New York and Los Angeles before expanding in early June.
