Lead Performance: The String Cheese Incident

This no-worries jam band started out playing the ski lodges of their native Colorado. That's not exactly the place to work out one's avant-garde proclivities, and String Cheese Incident aren't about to start now. Though they have a mandolinist, their core bluegrass is smothered here under mild-mannered funk-'n'-fusion. On ''Joyful Sound'' (''I'm gonna aim for the sky, keep my feet on the ground''), the cliches go down as easy as marshmallows in hot chocolate.
