Details Lead Performance: Aretha Franklin

As with some best-ofs, this 20-song collection reveals little in the way of the artist's growth or experimentation. Still, classics like ''Respect,'' ''Chain of Fools,'' and ''Freeway of Love'' should be required listening for U.S. citizenship. Despite its CD-sampler feel, this is a great start for the uninitiated soul seeker.
