On his debut, Lawson tries to find the middle ground between Newgrass Revival and Garth Brooks, with mixed results. Give him credit for an energetic, John Cowan-ish voice, promise as a songwriter, and the guts to record perhaps the weirdest country cover ever -- a banjo-driven take on Marvin Gaye's ''Let's Get It On.''
