On the music industry ''It was difficult to fit into this business because I borderline all the things that were almost not happening. I'm a 5-foot-3-inch girl with blond hair who sings like a church girl and wears glasses and comes with a different mentality about the fusion of her music. What category was I going to fit into?''

On ''Divas'' ''I don't believe I'm the best singer in the world, but I don't believe that I can't be compared with anybody else. It's not about competition for me.''

On her fears ''I don't have a fear of anything. I don't have a fear of death, I don't have a fear of competition, or of a big crowd, or a small crowd. I don't have those kinds of fears because those are negative things, and I believe in being positive.''

On being considered an R&B vocalist ''I've been compared to Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, and really wonderful singers out there. [People] think that there has to be a reason why my voice sounds like it does. Like I'm a long-lost black child or my father has to be some Motown revival guy.''

Last time she acted like a freak ''I was trying to tell the audience in French that I love the city that I was playing in, which was Béziers. I wanted to say 'I love Béziers,' but I said it phonetically. Unfortunately, with my faux pas of French language, I just told everybody, 'I love to f---!'''

What she considers normal ''I love my home. I love to cook. The other day I picked up the phone and I didn't realize there was a conference call that I had set up. I'm vacuuming away -- they were just shocked. And I was like, 'I've got dust bunnies. I need to clean them.'''
