Don't accuse Hall & Oates of being out of touch. The rock & soul stylists have a top 20 adult-contemporary hit, "Do It for Love" (from a new best-of disc of the same name), and their hallmark tunes "Private Eyes" and "She's Gone" feature in the '80s-obsessed comedy Cherish. Is it a comeback? Daryl Hall, 55, says it isn't so. "We never went anywhere," proclaims Hall, now working with Oates on album No. 17, due in the fall. "We pioneered a style of music that's coming back into vogue." Credit DJs like Fatboy Slim and rappers De La Soul. "I don't know how many times I've cleared 'I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)' as a sample." It's just their modern M-E-T-H-O-D of showin' love.
