-- GOOD TIMING There's nothing quite like having beginner's luck -- and a great agent. Twenty-five-year-old first-time writer-director Greg Marcks will begin production on his Memento-like drama 11:14 in July, with Oscar winner Hilary Swank and Rachael Leigh Cook set to star. (Swank will executive-produce, with Beau Flynn producing.) The $3 million indie, which begins with a body flying off a bridge into a moving car and then is told in flashbacks, centers on four different plotlines all taking place around the same time in a one- stoplight town. Pretty Swank indeed.
-- ON THE HOLE A more seasoned director is surprising us as well: Andrew Davis (The Fugitive, Collateral Damage), known for his love of action, is currently directing a movie adaptation of the children's book Holes, with a screenplay written by its author, Louis Sachar. Sigourney Weaver and Jon Voight star in the project -- the first produced by former Dimension honcho Cary Granat's Walden Media -- about a kid who is sent to a prisonlike camp and searches for buried treasure. If it sounds less than...edgy, Davis assures us it's not so different from his blockbusters. ''I like to feel like I have a big heart,'' he says, adding ''There are cinematic confluences with The Fugitive, because this is about an unjustly accused kid who gets sent to prison for something he hasn't done.''
-- FURTHERMORE Freddy Rodriguez, who plays mortician Federico Diaz in HBO's Six Feet Under, is filling his hiatus with Pledge of Allegiance, a dramedy about four Mob- obsessed high school kids, directed by first-timer Lee Madsen. But with filming just wrapped and Six Feet Under not starting up again until September, Rodriguez has time for one more project -- which may be an Emilio Estevez-directed biopic about the assassination of Robert Kennedy.
