Blue Streak: The Album (1999)

EW's GRADE
C+

Details Lead Performance: Various Artists; Genres: Hip-Hop/Rap, Soundtracks/Cast Recordings

A better title might be Platinum Streak, considering the talent collected here -- we're talking hip-hop heavies like Ja Rule and Foxy Brown, soul superstars Kelly Price and Keith Sweat, and slick studio Svengalis Rodney Jerkins and Swizz Beatz. Yet other than Jay-Z's maddeningly infectious, inventive ''Girl's Best Friend,'' this compilation goes blue in the face trying to please every audience -- a little Dirty South bass bounce here, a little East Coast rap ruckus there -- resulting in a serious case of Urbanus soundtrackus genericus.
