Gomez have been tagged as a U.K. roots-rock outfit, but one listen to their sophomore CD shows they're twisting those roots into strange and marvelous shapes: Imagine The Band reincarnated as a quintet of fey, post-grunge Limey whelps. Simultaneously trippy and earthy, songs like ''Revolutionary Kind'' are shot through with a timeless, folksy impressionism. Better yet, all this tough-and-tender beauty comes complete with melodies and hooks. A
