Movie Capsule Review
THIS IS MY FATHER (1999)
Aidan Quinn, James Caan (1999, Columbia
TriStar, 120 mins., R, also on DVD)
Credits
B-
Caan plays a teacher who pilgrimages to Ireland to learn about his parents' doomed romance in the '30s (Quinn and Moya Farrelly, quite good in flashbacks). Alas, moments that should echo through time fall flat, though the central love story is dewy and sweet; too bad the whole film isn't devoted to it. Reel Goodies (0:55) John Cusack cameos as an American photographer who alights from a yellow airplane. The Last Detail Father's a family affair. Writer-director Paul Quinn produced with brothers Aidan and Declan (also the cinematographer) -- and Cusack's a pal from their Chicago days. C+
