Lead Performance: Sting

Maybe Sting should consider relocating from the Hamptons to Nashville, seeing how this is his second album in a row where the standout is a putative country song -- albeit a mini-epic one that shifts to gospel-jazz in 9/8 time halfway through. ''Fill Her Up'' is one of only a couple songs to have an immediately discernible pulse. For all the tricky time signatures, the world-beat New Age noir of Day offers plenty of passing harmonic pleasures and not much overt passion, good enough if you like your aural wallpaper measured out in shifting meters.
