Yes, all clouds have silver linings, including those of Hurricane Floyd. The natural disaster helped the makers of the George Clooney-starring shipwreck flick The Perfect Storm achieve a more Perfect Storm: They got hard-to-beat footage of crashing surf off Massachusetts. ''It did make for some really nice-looking waves,'' says publicist Rob Harris.
But Floyd wasn't a fair-weather friend to other East Coast productions. The cast and crew of Dawson's Creek had to blow out of Wilmington, N.C., for three days. ''I'm sure the docks we use were damaged,'' says a WB spokesperson. ''But our sets are fine, and everyone's back at work.'' In Jacksonville, Fla., another WB series, Safe Harbor, shuttered for three days. ''Unsafe Harbor may be a more accurate title,'' cracks star Gregory Harrison. In Savannah, director Robert Redford canceled rehearsals for The Legend of Bagger Vance, a golf drama starring Matt Damon and Will Smith. ''Everyone had to evacuate for four days,'' says a DreamWorks spokesman. And torrential-rain checks were given for the Backstreet Boys' Sept. 15-16 shows in Fort Lauderdale. Think Floyd was bad? Imagine the howls of thousands of deprived teenage girls.
