Savage, known for his hilariously raunchy syndicated sex advice column, here serves up an unexpectedly touching account of his attempts to adopt a child with his boyfriend, Terry. But don't expect him to lose his edge just because he wants to be a daddy -- Savage is as irreverent as ever, whether he's outlining reasons for fatherhood (an excuse to get fat figures prominently) or arguing the case for gay adoption (''Straight people all over the world have kids for...much worse reasons every day. They fall down drunk and get up pregnant''). Best of all, the tale doesn't remain a mere amusement: The couple's emotional journey to obtain little D.J. is as moving as it is entertaining. Let's just hope the Kid's caseworkers have a sense of humor. A
