A good-hearted but almost ritualistically formulaic sports movie that might be called Picket Fences on Ice, so familiar is it in population (lovable-eccentric), tone (kooky-warm), and pedagogical value (average folks can be heroes) to the TV constructions of Mystery writer-producer David E. Kelley. Russell Crowe stars as the town sheriff and amateur ice-hockey team captain; Mary McCormack plays his true-blue wife; and Burt Reynolds growls as a crusty judge. C
