As Phat as It Gets

EW's GRADE
B

Details Lead Performance: Leslie West

Judging from the cover, the ex-Mountain man is far fitter than in his ex-group's circa-'71 salad days. But judging from the music, it's still 1971 for West. That's not necessarily a bad thing — his raunchy guitar and strangulated vocals are as potent as they were back when ''Mississippi Queen'' was a hit. If you're still mourning the demise of West, Bruce and Laing, As Phat as it Gets is for you.
