Soundsystem

EW's GRADE
C

Details Lead Performance: 311; Genre: Metal

Back in the day, this Nebraska quintet fused B-boy ill-ness with heavy-metal shrillness and mined a mint with their 1995 self-titled album. Now it's four years later, and Limp Bizkit are going to the bank on the rap & rock sound popularized by 311, who are trying to play catch-up. But Soundsystem is nothing but a giant step backward. With their lame attempts at streetwise signifying and ham-fisted riffery, it's no wonder 311 got lost in the shuffle. C
