Buffy fans bob their heads to Nerf Herder's grunge-thrash theme every Tuesday; the rest of this CD suggests the series' emotional obsessions: from repressed anger (Splendid's okay ''Charge'') to gloriously gloppy romanticism (Christoph Beck's ''Close Your Eyes''). Choice cuts from Guided by Voices, Bif Naked, and Rasputina contrast with the occasional clinker (K's Choice's ''Virgin State of Mind''). And Alison Krauss' ''It Doesn't Matter'' is less downbeat bluegrass than wonderful voice-from-the-crypt melodrama. B+
