Movie Review

Hideous Kinky (1999)

EW's GRADE
B

Details Rated: R; Genre: Drama; With: Kate Winslet

The title is half right: This dry-as-sand drama is indeed hideous, with Winslet's listless English mother of two adrift in 1972 Marrakech for no discernible reason. Her daughters, meant to represent her conscience, are like brats forced to eat in a Moroccan restaurant, and her ''enigmatic'' lover (Taghmaoui) is painstakingly dull. The only kinkiness comes from watching Winslet become nearly as petulant as her preschool costars. Reel Goodies (1:01) Well, the scenery is nice. And America's ''A Horse With No Name'' is on the soundtrack, completely unironically. The Last Detail The star met her husband, assistant director Jim Threapleton, while making this film. D
