The making of a 1930s biblical epic in the Arizona desert would seem to be a promising idea for a comedy, so it comes as a surprise that Epic Proportions is quite unfunny. After all, the show was cowritten by David Crane (exec producer of Friends) and playwright-performer Larry Coen, it was directed by the usually reliable Jerry Zaks, it features hunky Jeremy Davidson and Alan Tudyk strutting around in togas, and it stars the adorable Kristin Chenoweth (who scored a Tony for her work in last season's You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown). But even her sweetly squeaky voice and dead-on timing can't fully compensate for the lame physical gags and generally lackluster jokes. Arid. C-
