Quake III: Arena

Jaw-dropping visuals, white-knuckle gameplay, and robust multiplayer support have made the million-selling Quake series the king of the first-person-shooter genre. Quake III pushes the mayhem even further by sending the player into online futuristic arenas to rise through the ranks as a one-man (or one-woman) army. Though there's nothing like playing against live, unpredictable human opponents, the single-player option that lets you fight against artificial players simulates the online experience. The gorgeous graphics come with a price: Expected minimum system requirements are a Pentium 200, 64MB of RAM, and a 3-D accelerator card. Who said death matching in style was cheap? A-
