THE LOVE LETTER Kate Capshaw, Ellen DeGeneres (1999, DreamWorks, 88 mins., PG-13, also on DVD) Divorced, rigid bookstore owner Helen (Capshaw) finds a mysteriously unsigned mash note -- which soon connects her and her friends in a daisy chain of misbegotten, bittersweet liaisons. This rueful comedy manages to evince all the charm and depth of the Cathleen Schine novel on which it's based. REEL GOODIES (0:50) First Tom Everett Scott boogies solo in his undies (shades of Risky Business), then capers with Capshaw (a la Bull Durham). THE LAST DETAIL Thanks to a bronze 'do, Titanic's Gloria Stuart, as Helen's grandmother, looks much younger than her 88 years. A-
