This sentimental favorite inspired by the 1925 Scopes trial (in which a teacher was prosecuted for lecturing on evolution) returns -- all soft edges, amber light, and self-congratulation. Lemmon portrays defense attorney Henry Drummond as a grumpy old man; a reptilian Scott blinks, glowers, and roars convincingly in the role of prosecutor Matthew Harrison Brady. Reel Goodies (1:24) Lemmon lets loose and skewers the creationist viewpoint in a scathing, climactic speech. The Last Detail Scott died just four months after the movie's May premiere on Showtime. B+
