Animating Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical about an English schoolteacher's battle of wills with the king of Siam isn't a bad idea, but grafting Disney-style elements like a conniving prime minister/sorcerer, a gang of cute animals, and loads of painful slapstick is. Older viewers will cringe at the unctuous treatment in The King and I, and kids will simply be bored. C-
