Note to production managers: Think about replacing those stage doors with revolving ones, as a slew of Broadway and Off Broadway shows are in the midst of cast switches. Polly Draper succeeded Natasha Richardson in Closer June 15, complete with a Britishism-free part rewritten to accommodate the Yank actress. Elsewhere, Susan Egan and Michael Hall took over Mary McCormack's and Alan Cumming's Cabaret duties last month; former Who's the Boss? mama Judith Light and Melrose Place hunk Grant Show debut in Wit Aug. 10; and the newest Chicago dames, Charlotte d'Amboise (filling in for an injured Sandy Duncan until Aug. 12) and Ruthie Henshall, recently stepped into Roxie Hart's and Velma Kelly's stilettos for the top 10 musical. Finally, Breakfast Club fans rejoice: Andrew McCarthy followed Scott Wolf as Clifford in Side Man July 19, and Ally Sheedy is in talks for the lead role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. ''I hope she does it, quite honestly,'' says Hedwig's publicist. ''She has the intensity for a very fragile performance, something really campy and tragic.'' As long as Molly Ringwald doesn't do her makeup again ...
