Music Review: 'Staying Power' (1999)

Details Lead Performance: Barry White

The voice is still deep, the subject matter is still sex, the songs are still long (none shorter than five minutes), and the orchestration is still layered, complex, and hypnotic. Too bad the production is so blandly cheeseball. With its dinky-sounding drum machines and fuzak synth, Staying Power sounds woefully wimpy compared with White's lavish symphonic '70s recordings. B-
