tennis player Murphy Jensen, 30, are expecting a child in
October. Givens already has a 6-year-old adopted son, Michael.
WEDDINGS
Mono-monikered hip-hoppers Pepa (a.k.a. Sandra Denton,
29) and Treach (a.k.a. Anthony Criss, 29) were married July 24,
in Morris Township, N.J. It's the first marriage for the couple,
who have a 10-month-old daughter, Egypt.... Pop star Phil
Collins, 48, to marketing exec Orianne Cevey, 27, July 23, in
Begnins, Switzerland. Cevey's PR firm, based in Switzerland,
handled Collins' press interviews when he appeared there. It's
his third marriage and her first.... Movie auteur Martin
Scorsese, 56, to former book editor Helen Morris, 52, July 22,
in New York City. It's his fifth marriage and her second....
Former Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, 51, to former
schoolteacher Natascha Muenter, 32, July 15, in Mill Valley,
Calif. It's the first marriage for both.
ARRESTED
Guitarist Slash, 34, on a charge of spousal assault,
July 24, in Hollywood. According to the L.A. County sheriff's
office, the former Guns 'N' Roses axman (real name: Saul Hudson)
was picked up at a recording studio five days after allegedly
punching his girlfriend at a West Hollywood hotel (the police
are withholding her name). Though Slash's spokesman believes
that ''things will look a lot different'' after his client's side
of the story is told, he declined to elaborate until Slash
retains legal counsel. The rocker is free on $50,000 bail; no
court date is set.
DEATHS
TV newsman Martin Agronsky, 84, of congestive heart
failure, July 25, in Washington, D.C. In a five-decade career,
Agronsky worked for all three major networks and helped invent
the ''talking head'' format of journalistic chitchat, notably with
his syndicated Agronsky & Co., which aired from 1976 to '88....
Pioneering meteorologist Clint Youle, 83, of complications from
a stroke, July 23, in Galena, Ill. In 1948, armed with a map and
a marker, the former Air Force meteorologist went on Chicago's
NBC affiliate and became TV's first weatherman.... Advertising
titan David Ogilvy, 88, of an undisclosed illness, July 21, at
his home near Bonnes, France. Ogilvy, cofounder of ad giant
Ogilvy & Mather, created indelible campaigns for Schweppes,
Rolls-Royce, and Hathaway shirts. His 1963 best-seller Confessions of an Advertising Man became a sacred text of
hucksterism.... Character actress Sandra Gould, 73, of
complications from surgery, July 20, in Burbank. Best known as
nosy neighbor Gladys Kravitz on Bewitched from 1966 to '72,
Gould also appeared on I Love Lucy and My Three Sons....
Musician Kevin Wilkinson, 41, after apparently hanging himself
at home, July 18, in Baydon, Scotland. He had played with
Squeeze, the Proclaimers, and Howard Jones.... Author Gina
Berriault, 73, of an undisclosed illness, July 15, in Sausalito,
Calif. Her 1996 story collection Women in Their Beds won the
National Book Critics Circle and PEN/Faulkner awards.
