LIKE IT IS Ian Rose, Roger Daltrey (First Run Features, 95 mins., unrated, also on DVD) Change the gender of one of this oddly out-of-touch film's gay protagonists, transplant the action from Britain to America, remove the profanity and the techno soundtrack, and this could almost be a Douglas Sirk melodrama circa 1957, minus the subversive subtext. Two young lovers struggle to overcome class boundaries, jealousy, blah blah blah. Appealing central performances and commendably matter-of-fact sex scenes help relieve the tedium; on the other hand, erstwhile Who frontman Daltrey's leering, twitchy work as an unscrupulous record promoter demonstrates yet again that when it comes to the movies, rockers generally should be heard and not seen.
