What begins as a hard-nosed crime caper gradually gives way to soppyextraterrestrial myth, though the author tries valiantly to avoid any specific mention of Roswell. But the subplots are crowded with stick figures; there's no compelling, fully fleshed character to keep it all grounded on planet Earth. C
