God is a Bullet

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Writer: Boston Teran; Genres: Fiction, Mystery and Thriller

God is a Bullet begins with a murder and descends from there, as a Manson-worshiping cult figure named Cyrus and his band of tattooed, heroin-shooting crazies attack and gruesomely torture a woman and her second husband before kidnapping the woman's daughter. When the crime is discovered, the girl's father, Bob, a deskbound policeman, sets out to rescue his child. Helping him is an ex-drug addict named Case, who once escaped from Cyrus' clutches; together they descend into a universe where ''living is the downside of death.'' In this world, Bob gets his own piece of body art, not to mention a lot of heavy artillery, and Case gets to walk the trail of revenge. It ain't pretty, and it ain't bedtime reading. B+
