The CD for the sci-fi hit The Matrix sticks close to the soundtrack template for contemporary Hollywood thrill rides: Mix six parts extreme metal from the likes of Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, throw in some electronic mayhem from Propellerheads and Prodigy, add a pinch of Teutonic rage courtesy of Rammstein, and voila you've got a potent musical Molotov cocktail. At least this album aspires to a certain internal logic, which ranks it a notch above the usual haphazard tie-in product. B+
